Sysco Brings More to the Table

Foodservice is changing as long-term care facility residents and restaurant customers become more discerning. Sysco, a global leader in foodservice, provides access to a comprehensive food network for healthcare facilities such as senior living, restaurants and other industries. Options range from custom cuts of meat and high-quality seafood to imported foods for global flavors to good-tasting, nutritious meals for budget-conscious healthcare organizations.

Nick Kruthaupt, vice president of national sales, Healthcare/Senior Living, Sysco, discusses how the company keeps Provista members stocked with fresh products while also keeping them current on the latest trends and new ideas.
Q. What common food challenges do restaurants and healthcare organizations face?
A. Both types of organizations face several common challenges:

  • Providing an excellent culinary dining experience, which encompasses both the taste and the customer service experience, while staying within their food cost budgets.
  • Retaining staff and reducing turnover.
  • Training and educating foodservice teams on proper food handling, especially food safety, which is critically important, particularly for senior adults at risk for infections.
  • Customers from all segments of our business pursue ethnic, trendy and healthy dining options.
Q. Can you provide an overview of your leading technology solutions like MySysco and their benefits?
A. Sysco goes beyond food to deliver technology to help our customers succeed. New features and programs available to customers include:

  • MySysco—an online one-stop shop to access orders, bill payment, tracking and more.
  • Sysco Market Express—24/7 online ordering updated with easy search features, enhanced nutrition information and over 200,000 product images.
  • Mobile Inventory—allows customers to expedite inventory, set pars, including both Sysco and non-Sysco items, and link to Sysco Market Express to easily replenish items.
  • Solutions and Services—online resources for everything our customers’ operations might need, from menu design services to multicultural marketing.

Our technology is evolving to meet the needs of this fast-pasted industry. It supports our vision as a company to be our customers’ most valued and trusted business partner.
Q.What are some of your more popular food services and how do they help customers reach their goals?
A. Our tools like NetIMPAC are very popular in the senior living segment. They provide a solution to help our customers provide excellent, nutritionally balanced meals and stay within their budgeted food cost. We have more than 20,000 tested recipes in our database, and it will adjust Price Per Day (PPD) as customers choose menus and recipes.

Sysco eNutrition® is a web-based interactive tool that provides nutrition information, ingredients, allergens and attributes for the products we sell. It’s integrated with the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN), which is a network that standardizes foodservice industry data to drive better product information in a near real-time data flow.
Q. Which of your services are most underutilized by customers, but could make a big impact on their business?
A. The training tools available through our KEYS in-service training program are underutilized.

Our local account executives are the key to unlocking many other extensive resources Sysco brings to market. They can connect you to the right resource, whether you’re looking to train your staff using our KEYS in-service program, ServSafe® certification or continuing education opportunities, like for certified dietary managers and registered dietitians/nutritionists. Sysco can help you expand your organic and clean label offerings or reduce labor costs by leveraging mobile inventory and ordering tools.
Q. Can Sysco provide communities with ingredients from around the globe for authentic multicultural dishes?
A. Absolutely! Sysco provides access to thousands of unique and globally produced items, both in our operating companies and through our European imports specialty company. Additionally, ethnic products under our Sysco family of brands, such as Jade Mountain and Casa Solano, provide access to on-trend ingredients.

Under our Point Source Inspection Program, we’ve formalized inspection programs at more than 150 approved supply facilities in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia to monitor products for quality and safety prior to delivery to our North American companies. Sysco has the ingredients and expertise to keep your menu relevant.
“Sysco provides access to thousands of unique and globally produced items, both in our operating companies and through our European imports specialty company.”
